Stogies Exclusive Room 101 Namakubi Ecuador H-Town Cigar
This is a special treat, a lancero limited edition Room 101 Namakubi Ecuador blend made exclusively for Stogies World Class Cigars of Houston. The “H-Town” cigar’s official release date is set for December 19th, 2013. The release will coincide with a holiday party hosted at Stogies and will feature special guest, Matt Booth of Room 101 Cigars himself.
The lancero vitola is a personal favorite of mine, and I know it is a favorite of Jorge Ahued of Stogies. When I think of Jorge, I think of a man with genuine hospitality and knowledge. He is always welcoming and ready to share his passion of fine cigars, as well as his knowledge of wonderful wines, food, and craft beer. Thus when the announcement was made that he would be releasing a Room 101 exclusive cigar for the shop, I was happy to see the chosen vitola was a lancero. Wonderful!
I often think of a lancero as an espresso. It allows you to taste the particular blend with its full intensity. That’s certainly what happens here with this blend. Before lighting the cigar, I notice notes of leather and a light black pepper nose on the foot and wrapper. A dry draw of the cigar gives hints of sweetness and spice. Upon lighting the cigar I taste a wood, oak-like flavor with a rounding gentle black pepper that begins to grow as the smoke continues. An earthy element begins to settle in and the pepper notes maintain a good balance without overtaking the cigar.
The smoke is very elegant through the nose with notes of orange or lemon zests making an appearance. The cigar certainly builds in character as well. I notice an increase in the flavors as well as the strength sneaking in behind them. It reminds me of a delicious Belgian style beer that you taste and think, wow I could drink this all day! Then you pick up the bottle and realize that the ABV is well over 11% but you cannot taste a bit of it, ha. Yes, flavor certainly stands out here and is well balanced, however the strength is certainly there as well, even if you do not notice it at first. It makes itself more apparent about midway through the cigar.
Though this cigar is a limited edition and retail exclusive, the store is accepting orders via the phone. I’ve included their address and phone below, and would highly recommend picking up an H-Town for yourself, especially if you are in Houston.
If you haven’t smoked a lancero before, I’d love to hear your comments on what has prevented you from smoking one before. I’ve been happy to see more become available and I hope to see the move continue. When a lancero is made properly, it is a wonderful treat, as seen here in this blend.
