Mr. Paley’s grandfather, Samuel Paley, began making the La Palina in 1896. His son William S Paley came on board in 1910 and helped grow the Philadelphia company through the 1920’s. One of his favorite ways to promote the cigar was with the La Palina Hour and other radio promotions.
In fact, William S Paley, Bill’s father, became so enamored with the radio that he bought five radio stations which soon became the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS). CBS went on to become one of the major broadcasting empires we have today, the cigar company faded away, and the rest is history.
In 2009, Bill Paley resurrected the La Palina brand in honor of his family and his own love of fine cigars.
