PS: ports are some of my favorite pairings, but part of that comes from my love of ports alone. The Penfold's Grandfather port goes lovely with a Padron. As it is now getting cooler I think I'll get back into pairings more. I have been on an ale kick and think some of the winter treats will do well to keep warm and compliment a cigar. Will let you know as it happens ;)

That's brilliant! I love it ;D

I was just talking about marshmallows over the fire a moment ago with a friend, too. I've been experimenting with various styles of pairings lately. Some on purpose some by matter of what is already around me. Let me know how your experiments go and I will do the same.

Teresa, I had a similar experience with a CAO Brazilia and some Hershey's milk chocolate. Me and some friends were smoking cigars and having s'mores by the fire and, not knowing anything about it, I just decided to try a piece of chocolate with the cigar. To my surprise, it was excellent. It totally cleared and refreshed my palate and allowed me taste everything in the cigar very clearly. It didn't change the taste of the cigar at all, but rather, enhanced the flavors. I'm glad to hear you tried chocolate with a milder cigar - I'm going to have to keep experimenting with this.

I will have to try the Ashton Aged Maduro. I bought a sampler from Tampa Sweathearts a year ago when I was buying some Anejos but have yet to smoke one. Your chocolate tip is a good one. Ed from St Pete Pipe and Tobacco always recommends training your palate with various flavors to help enhance cigar smoking.

Nice review!

Ports are delicious with cigars, that's for sure. I have not paired this myself, but I've heard from a few vintage port drinkers that Madeiras actually pair better with a cigar. Ports can sometimes overpower the delicate nuances of cigar.

Keep on smoking,
Ji

The Basil Hayden Bourbon works nicely with the chocolate and cigar on this one. I like the Avo maduros as well, and the new Avo Companero may make my top list, I really like the complexity and balance of that cigar.

Though I must say a nice tawny port and a Padron Anniversary is a favorite of mine. Another great maduro to consider is the Kristoff maduro. I just had one this evening as dessert after a cigar dinner- very enjoyable!

You don't have to pair it with just chocolate, and dark or bitter chocolate is my personal preference.

I like to pair 70% dark chocolate and scotch with cigars. I've also found that Acid Blue line cigars and tawny port are a good match.
